Day 1: The Promise of Light
Scripture: Isaiah 9:1-3 NLT
Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. You will enlarge the nation of Israel, and its people will rejoice. They will rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest and like warriors dividing the plunder.
Devotional: The prophecy in Isaiah speaks of a time when those in darkness will see a great light. This promise is fulfilled in Jesus, who brings hope and illumination to our lives. Just as the people of Israel awaited the coming of this light, we too can anticipate the transformative power of Jesus in our own lives. His light dispels despair and brings joy and growth.

Day 2: Walking in the Light
Scripture: John 8:12-14 NLT
Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” The Pharisees replied, “You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid.” Jesus told them, “These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know this about me.”
Devotional: Jesus declares Himself as the light of the world, offering a path out of darkness. Following Him means embracing a life illuminated by His truth and guidance. The Pharisees questioned His authority, but Jesus knew His identity and mission. As we follow Him, we too can walk confidently, knowing that His light leads us to life.

Day 3: Light in the Darkness
Scripture: Ephesians 5:8-14 NLT
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, “Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
Devotional: Paul reminds us that we were once in darkness, but now we are called to live as people of light. This transformation is not just about avoiding darkness but actively living in a way that reflects God’s goodness. As we expose darkness and embrace the light, we become beacons of hope and truth in the world.

Day 4: The Light of Life
Scripture: John 1:1-5 NLT
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Devotional: John introduces Jesus as the Word, the source of life and light. His light is not just a temporary flicker but an eternal flame that darkness cannot overcome. This assurance gives us confidence that no matter how dark our circumstances may seem, the light of Jesus is always present and victorious.

Day 5: Guided by the Light
Scripture: Psalm 119:105-112 NLT
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. I have suffered much, O Lord; restore my life again as you promised. Lord, accept my offering of praise, and teach me your regulations. My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions. The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments. Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight. I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end.
Devotional: The psalmist describes God’s Word as a guiding light, illuminating our path and helping us navigate life’s challenges. By committing to His Word, we find direction and strength to overcome obstacles. This guidance is a treasure that brings delight and assurance, even when life feels uncertain.
