THE SCARY BOAT RIDE

MARK 4

Discuss

Jesus had been busy — performing miracles, healing people, and calling His disciples — but did anyone really understand who He truly was? The disciples were about to find out one night on the Sea of Galilee. A fierce storm blew up while Jesus was asleep in the boat. Terrified, the disciples woke Him — and with just three words, “Peace, be still,” Jesus calmed the wind and waves. In that moment, the disciples realized Jesus was far greater than they had ever imagined. This Sunday, we each got into our own “boats,” naming our fears and worries and declaring, “Jesus, we trust You.” Act out this story together as a family, then talk about what “storms” each of you might be facing right now. Open your Bible and find verses — God’s words — that bring peace to those fears and remind your family that Jesus is always in control.

Weekly Challenge

Main Idea: Jesus is so strong that those who trust Him never have to be afraid Supplies: A bowl of water; A straw or small fan; Small paper “boats” (cut from paper or use corks) What to do: Fill the bowl with water and float your little boats on top. Have each person take turns creating a “storm” by blowing on the water or using the fan. Then, one person says Jesus’ words: “Peace, be still.” Stop the wind and watch the water calm down. Talk about what it feels like when life feels stormy — when things are scary, stressful, or uncertain. End by praying together: “Jesus, thank You that You can calm every storm in our hearts.”

Power Verse

"They were filled with great fear and said to one another, "Who is this that even the wind and the sea obey Him".
