FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: SELF-CONTROL

EXODUS 19, 20; LUKE 15:11-32

Discuss

We have arrived at our last Fruit of the Spirit this week – SELF-CONTROL. I believe God saved SELF-CONTROL for our last fruit because He knew it would be the most difficult. In our 2 stories today we see the Israelites showing a lack of self-control as they made a golden calf whole waiting for Moses to descend with the 10 commandments. In the New Testament we read about The Prodigal Son and his lack of self-control but also the way his older brother responded when he returned home which was also a lack of self-control. Review these stories with your kids and discuss ways that the people in the story showed SELF-CONTROL and those who did not demonstrate this character trait. What could they have done differently to show SELF-CONTROL?

Weekly Challenge

Our SELF-CONTROL FRUIT CHALLENGE this week is to demonstrate SELF-CONTROL through our actions. Decide on a SELF-CONTROL challenge each day and talk about how you accomplished this challenge before you go to bed at night. Here are some challenge examples: Pausing before saying something when upset Saying no to something they really wanted Letting someone else go first when they really wanted to be first Waiting patiently without complaining

Power Verse

"The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control."
