Hi GrowPoint Family,
On Sunday, August 16, we’ll celebrate one of our favorite Sundays of the year – Adopt-A-School Sunday!
For the past 4½ years, God has given us the incredible privilege of serving Lorain County through Stevan Dohanos Elementary School (SDES). What started out as simply showing up for the students in Lorain has grown into GrowPoint adopting this elementary school! We use “adoption” language intentionally to express the love and commitment we are making to the students, families, teachers, and staff at SDES. Over the years we have developed meaningful relationships built through volunteering, teacher appreciation, school events, Christmas gifts, and countless everyday moments of encouragement. We are so grateful for the trust we’ve built and for the opportunity to continue being a presence of hope in our community.
We’re excited to begin another school year soon and you are invited to help bring the joy to the students and families at Stevan Dohanos!

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
We will be collecting school supplies for our students and teachers. All of the donated supplies will be distributed on August 9 at a Back-to-School Event, helping students begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
How You Can Help
- Donate school supplies from the list provided below
- Place supplies in the collection bins in the lobby on August 2 & August 9
- Pray for the students, teachers, and families who will receive them.
- If you’d like to contribute financially, you can give to GrowPoint’s Adopt A School Neighborhood Fund!

VOLUNTEERING AT THE SCHOOL
Each school year, volunteers serve at Stevan Dohanos every day of the week, partnering with teachers in the classroom as an extra source of support and encouragement for students. Volunteering is one of the best ways to build meaningful relationships with both teachers and students while faithfully praying for them by name. If you’re interested in serving, here are a few things to know:
- Our volunteers must be attending GrowPoint regularly for at least 6 months before serving
- All volunteers must pass a background check through GrowPoint and an FBI/BCI fingerprint check through Lorain County before serving
- New volunteers are required to attend a volunteer training at GrowPoint prior to serving
- We ask our volunteers to commit to serving “once a week for one semester” in order to maintain consistency with the students and develop healthy relationships.
