THE SCARY BOAT RIDE

MARK 4

Discuss

As we approach Easter, GrowKids is taking a break from the Biggest Story to join the ReWritten series at GrowPoint. We began this week with the story of Jesus Calming the Storm. It looked like the disciples were in for certain doom in the midst of the storm until they wake up Jesus and He speaks “Be Still” and the storm ceased. The important connecting point for our kids is that they know any storm they face Jesus is with them through the Holy Spirit. Read the Bible story in Mark 4:35-41 together. Discuss with your kids what storms they are facing at school, with friends, doubts/fears, . . .). Remind them that the disciples faced a real storm but we also have “storms in our lives”. After you have all shared your storms, take time to pray over each other using Jesus’ phrase “Be Still” to bring peace to your unique situations. BONUS: If your child was in GrowKids Elementary on Sunday, pray the prayer that is on their calming jar.

Weekly Challenge

Jesus Calming the Storm is a great story to recreate with your family. You can design a boat in the middle of the room (either tape an outline of a boat on the floor or use furniture) and gather different items to make a storm (flashlights, fan, water spray bottles, . . .). As you read the story, act out the actions of the disciples and Jesus using your props. When you complete the story, have your family talk about how they felt before, during and after the storm and the difference that Jesus made for the disciples and can make for them as well. Following your family drama, have a nautical snack which may include fish and chips (Gold fish crackers and potato chips), banana boat sundaes, or Swedish Fish.
