THE HAPPY MEAL THAT KEPT ON GOING: THE STORY OF THE FEEDING OF THE 5,000

MATTHEW 4:13-21

Discuss

Continuing in our GrowKids REWRITTEN Series, this week we considered the story of Jesus feeding the 5000 (men plus at least double more women and children) with only a boy’s small lunch. The main point in our story is that God uses what may seem insignificant and multiplies it to the max! Read the story as a family and talk about things that may seem insignificant to us yet God uses it to make a big difference in someone’s life. Some examples may include: making a meal for someone who is ill, donating clothes or toys to a family in need, serving your church or community together, . . . Talk about the positive difference your act of kindness can make on others.

Weekly Challenge

This week’s story takes place on a hillside – a beautiful setting for a picnic. As we anticipate spring and warmer weather, plan a picnic (indoor or outdoor) to replicate the picnic on the hillside with Jesus. As you enjoy your picnic, talk about how you would have felt during this day – hungry (maybe even hangry), curious how you were going to be fed, amazed as you watch Jesus take the food and multiply it. Talk about things in yiur family that you would like to see God multiply.
